On March 8, Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Superintendent Peter Smith sent the following message via SchoolMessenger to J-D families and staff.
Dear Jamesville-DeWitt High School families and staff,
Today at approximately 2:30 P.M. a student brought to the attention of high school administrators a threatening note found in a high school bathroom. The note was generalized, without specifics. Administrators are working with the Town of DeWitt Police Department to investigate and we will provide more information as it becomes available. Both the School Resource Officer and Town of Dewitt Police Department are aware and extra patrols will be around the schools tomorrow through Friday.
At this time, we are asking parents and caregivers to discuss with your children the seriousness of making any threat, which could result in not only school-related disciplinary action but criminal charges. Please reinforce with them the message we share at school, which is if they see something concerning, they should tell someone. We all have a role in keeping our students and community safe.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Peter Smith
