Fourteen Jamesville-DeWitt High School seniors have earned the New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB), which prepares students with 21st-century language skills and signifies to future employers that the graduates have biliteracy skills.
The NYSSB recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in one or more languages in addition to English, according to the NYSSB website. Students demonstrate the required level of proficiency for the Seal by completing and presenting a culminating project, scholarly essay or portfolio.

The intent of the NYSSB is to encourage the study of languages, identify high school graduates with language and biliteracy skills for employers, provide universities with additional information about applicants seeking admission and placement, prepare students with 21-century skills, recognize the value of world, classical and home language instruction in schools and to affirm the value of diversity in a multilingual society, according to the NYSSB website.
