On March 2, the following letter from Peter Reyes, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services, was shared via SchoolMessenger with J-D families. A similar letter was also shared with J-D staff.
Dear J-D families,
The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District is asking all families of a current J-D student to complete an anonymous School Climate Survey (SCS). The survey was initially part of New York’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the state’s pilot and roll out of its model. District officials have decided to continue forward with the administration of our version of the SCS, as we anticipate it will provide the district with valuable information about our families, students and staff and for the evaluation of our Strategic Plan.
Last year, the district conducted a pilot of the SCS with our students in grades 3-12. This year, the SCS will again be administered to students in grades 3-12 and expanded to include families, teachers and district staff. Families can respond to the survey from March 1-31. All survey responses will be anonymous and confidential.
You can enter one survey for multiple students; however, if you feel the answers are different for each of your children, you may complete the survey once for each student. Please make sure to mark the appropriate school(s) accordingly. There are 72 multiple-choice questions in the survey.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to give us feedback on our schools. This information is important to us as we will be using the results to determine student and family support as we develop future budgets and programs. We plan to administer the surveys annually so that we can monitor the success of those programs and investigate new program opportunities.
Students will be taking their version of the survey during the regular school day throughout the month of March. If you would like to opt your student out of the SCS, please contact their school principal by March 7. Survey questions can be reviewed in advance of the administration in the Climate Surveys section on the district website.
Once survey data is reviewed and analyzed, we will be sharing our findings with the public at a future board of education meeting as well as on the district website. If you have questions or concerns about the survey, please contact me at any time.
Sincerely,
Peter Reyes
Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services
