J-D Superintendent Search Survey
There’s still time to participate in the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Board of Education’s online survey that will be used during the Superintendent of Schools hiring process. It will be available until Wednesday, Feb. 5.
The board is asking students, staff, families, and the community to complete the survey to develop a profile of desirable attributes wanted in the district’s next leader. A summary of the responses will be used by the board to help evaluate candidates.
The board is working with OCM BOCES District Superintendent, Matthew L. Cook, Ed. D. to conduct a confidential search. A confidential search typically leads to a larger candidate pool and increases the likelihood that the most qualified candidates will apply for the position.
The Superintendent of Schools application deadline is Friday, Jan. 31. The board is expected to begin first round interviews in Feb. and are anticipated to make an appointment in April or May. The new hire would officially begin leadership duties for the 2025-26 school year in July.
Superintendent Peter Smith announced his retirement plans in Oct. and will serve the district through the remainder of the 2024-25 school year.
A dedicated Superintendent search webpage is available on the district website. It includes news updates, important links, and a question and answer section.
UPK Letter of Intent
Families interested in registering for the Jamesville-DeWitt 2025-26 UPK program must first complete and return a letter of intent form no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31. The free, full day program for four-year-old children residing in the district follows a separate registration process from grades K-12.
To be eligible, a child must have a date of birth between 12/2/2020 and 12/1/2021, be a Jamesville-DeWitt resident, and have all required immunizations. Transportation on the regular elementary bus runs will be provided.
The district is anticipating one UPK classroom at Jamesville Elementary School, one classroom at Moses DeWitt Elementary School, two classrooms at Tecumseh Elementary School, and additional classrooms through our partnerships with the Rothschild Early Childhood Center (RECC) and Little Lukes Preschool and Childcare Center. Each classroom will have a maximum of 18 students.
In the event that more applications are received than can be accommodated in a particular school, the district will conduct a computerized lottery in which children will be selected at random. Any student not selected for a seat in their elementary school will be offered a seat at the RECC or Little Lukes until capacity is reached.
Registration packets will be mailed out beginning Monday, Feb. 10. For more information, please call the District Office at 315-445-8300.
