Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District residents can learn more about the $34.5 million capital project proposition with no additional taxpayer increase at a public informational meeting tonight at 7 p.m. You can attend in-person at the District Office or watch via Zoom.
The 2024 capital project would be financed through a combination of retiring debt along with funds set aside in a capital reserve ($1 million). The district would receive building aid from New York state (76.3% of project expenditures) over a 15-year period, in line with debt payments.
If approved by voters, the capital project would:
-
- Enhance safety and security.
- Elevate athletic and physical education spaces.
- Meet elementary and UPK playground guidelines.
- Improve aging non-instructional areas, such as the renovation of the high school kitchen and cafeteria corridor.
- Alleviate parking and exterior circulation issues.
- Replace or update facility HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and infrastructure for accessibility, health, and security.
SAFE & SECURE
The renovation of a secure vestibule entry at Jamesville-DeWitt High School and alleviating parking and exterior circulation issues at Tecumseh Elementary School are among several safety improvements.
SUPPORTING STUDENTS OUT OF CLASSROOMS
Students also learn in gyms, playgrounds, and on playing fields. By meeting UPK playground guidelines and improving athletic and physical education spaces, J-D would have safe and healthy learning facilities at its disposal.
HEALTHY & COMFORTABLE
Necessary updates and work on heating and ventilation systems, plumbing, electrical, and infrastructure throughout the district’s five school buildings would support accessibility, health, and security needs.
The public referendum vote is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at J-D High School’s main gymnasium. Absentee ballots are available from the District Office and are due back by Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, by 4 p.m. For more information, call (315) 445-8304.
The district mailed a newsletter about the capital project to the community in November, but the mailing has been delayed. You can view a digital version of the newsletter online. You can also find detailed information and the full project scope by visiting the district’s capital project webpage.
