Jamesville-DeWitt soccer teams raise money for charity

The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District is preparing to host the 15th annual Sally A. Lock/Coaches Vs. Cancer Charity Soccer Game on Saturday, Oct. 5.

The annual soccer game has been held at Jamesville-DeWitt since 2010, when Sally Lock, the sister of junior varsity boys soccer team head coach Paul Krause, was battling ovarian cancer for the second time in four years.

Lock died in December 2010, and Krause has continued to organize the fall fundraiser to honor her and support the fight against cancer.

This year, J-D will host Fulton. The boys junior varsity game will begin at 1 p.m. with the boys varsity game to follow at 3 p.m. Gift basket raffles will be available at the event. Pricing will be $2 a ticket, $10 for 6 tickets, and $25 for 15 tickets.

The soccer teams are also selling shirts to raise money for the event. Fans are encouraged to wear them during the games. Shirt orders are being collected until Sept. 19. You can email Paul Krause at pdkrause@jd.cnyric.org. Please let him know if you would like a short sleeved shirt for $20 each or a long sleeved shirt for $25 each and include your size. For sizes 2X and 3X add $3, 4X or bigger add $5.

Last year, the event raised a record $11,400 for the American Cancer Society and Coaches Vs. Cancer. In 2020, it was named the 2020 New York State Soccer Event of the Year.
