An overnight Charity Walkathon hosted by Jamesville-DeWitt High School Student Government was a huge success thanks to dozens of student participants and the local school community. Teams were able to raise $7,000 for We Rise Above the Streets. The local non-profit provides food, clothing, and other resources for those in need in Central New York.
“It was amazing to see the Jamesville-DeWitt community come together to support such an amazing cause. We are so grateful for the generosity of all of the students and families who donated, and were so excited by the enthusiasm for the event,” said senior Amanda Aitken.
During the March 22 event, students worked in teams of 5-8. One person had to be walking on the gym track at all times. There were also a number of fun activities for students to enjoy while taking a break from the track.
“The energy at the event was ecstatic, and we hope this Charity Walkathon tradition keeps going strong. Let’s keep spreading that community love in Syracuse,” said senior Karunmay Aggarwal.
There were two winning teams. The Power Walkers raised the most money, bringing in $620. The J-D Track & Field team completed the most laps at 650. Both teams were awarded special trophies made by senior Karunmay Aggarwal with the help of Technology Department staff.
We’re so proud of our students for giving back and getting involved in our community.
