On June 1, some Jamesville-DeWitt High School students were recognized for their outstanding efforts during the Junior Awards Program:
ALFRED UNIVERSITY SCHOLAR AWARD – George Theobald
Alfred University presents this award to a student with a strong academic record, including a rigorous curriculum and a high level of performance. The recipient demonstrates leadership, service and participation in extracurricular activities. This scholarship has the potential to total up to $30,000 per year, for four years.
BAUSCH & LOMB SCIENCE AWARD – William Sharlow
This award has been established by the University of Rochester and is presented to an outstanding junior student who has maintained high achievement and rigor in science and math classes. If the recipient chooses to apply to the University of Rochester, they will be eligible for a merit based scholarship.
CIVIC MORNING MUSICALS AWARD – Alexandra Bronchetti and Anthony Fico
This award is given to a junior for excellence in music.
CLARKSON ACHIEVEMENT AWARD – Nikhil Suryadevara
This award recognizes a student who has positively impacted their high school and local community and has a proven academic record. If the recipient enrolls at Clarkson University, they will receive a financial merit award worth between $20,000 and $25,000 per year, over four years of study.
CLARKSON LEADERSHIP AWARD – Liam Scott
This award recognizes a student who demonstrates strong leadership qualities, positively impacts their high school and local community and has a proven academic record. If the recipient enrolls at Clarkson University, they will receive a financial merit award worth between $20,000 and $25,000 per year, over four years of study.
ELMIRA COLLEGE KEY AWARD – Martin Kuci and Riley Markert
This award is given to two juniors in recognition of high scholastic achievement, leadership, citizenship and participation in extracurricular activities. If the recipients are accepted and choose to attend Elmira College, a scholarship worth $20,000 per year, for four years of study will be awarded.
GEORGE H. BALL COMMUNITY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD – Josephine Dittman, Aaron Ko, and Chukwuemeka Okereke
This scholarship is named after Keuka College’s founder, Rev. Dr. George Harvey Ball. It was his vision that through experiences both in and out of the classroom, students would graduate with the ability to “bring strength to our nation and help humanity”. Those selected to receive the Ball Award embody the qualities emphasized by Keuka’s faculty and staff, including integrity, academic excellence, diversity, leadership, service, and social responsibility. The recipients are juniors who will be awarded $10,000 each year; over four years of undergraduate study should they attend Keuka College.
GEORGE EASTMAN YOUNG LEADERS AWARD – Karunmay Aggarwal
This award has been established by the University of Rochester for a junior who has displayed strong leadership skills, receives excellent grades in a challenging curriculum and participates in and shows dedication to varied, extensive, or time-consuming co-curricular activities. If the recipient chooses to apply to the University of Rochester, they will be considered for a merit based scholarship.
JOHNS HOPKINS BOOK AWARD – Yavuz Damkaci
The Johns Hopkins University Book Award was established by the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association to recognize outstanding high school students during their junior year. The recipient of this award is someone that our school faculty considers to be an exceptional young person intellectually, academically, and morally.
LE MOYNE COLLEGE HEIGHTS AWARD – Bianca Wales
This award recognizes a student who is reaching for the heights in the classroom and in service to the school and community. If the recipient chooses to attend Le Moyne College, they will receive a scholarship of $16,000 per year, for four years of study.
RENSSELAER MATH & SCIENCE MEDAL – Frank Wang
This medal is awarded to the junior who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in science and math for the past three years. If the recipient is accepted and chooses to enroll at RPI, they will receive a $30,000 merit scholarship for each year of study.
ROCHESTER INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY HIGH SCHOOL AWARDS
These awards were established to honor and recognize high school juniors who have distinguished themselves academically, are active and involved members of their school and community and demonstrate outstanding achievement in a variety of areas. Recipients who enroll at RIT as full-time students will be eligible for a $32,000 scholarship over four years of study.

SAINT ANSELM COLLEGE BOOK AWARD – Kanami LaClair
This award is presented to a junior who has demonstrated academic success, as well as exceptional leadership qualities in the area of civic engagement. This student should have aspirations for continued education.
ST. BONAVENTURE UNIVERSITY – BONNIE SCHOLAR AWARD – Amber Bates and Daksh Maini
St. Bonaventure’s values of community and service are cornerstones of their identity, mission and culture. This scholarship rewards students based on qualities that reflect those core values, including academic excellence, community, integrity, wisdom, leadership, social responsibility, compassion and an appreciation for diversity.
ST. LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY BOOK AWARD – Evelyn Keefe
This award honors the achievements of a high school junior who has displayed determination, leadership and community service. The selected recipient will receive a book as a gift from St. Lawrence University. In addition, the selected student will receive a merit scholarship if they apply and are admitted to St. Lawrence University.
ST. MICHAEL’S COLLEGE AWARD FOR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT & SOCIAL CONSCIENCE – Alexandra Bronchetti and Shane Gargiulo
This award, established by St. Michael’s College, is given to junior students who have been inducted into the National Honor Society by establishing a strong academic record in addition to demonstrating a sustained and sincere commitment to community service activities through their high school or organizations within the local community.
STUDENT SAGE AWARD – Anthony Fico and Cadence Milligan
This award was established to recognize the characteristics of academic excellence, student leadership and community involvement. It serves as a public acknowledgement that enthusiasm for learning and commitment to service and leadership by our young men and women of today is important. The recipients of this award are juniors.
UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER FREDERICK DOUGLASS AND SUSAN B. ANTHONY AWARD IN HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCE – Amanda Aitken
This award, established by the University of Rochester, recognizes an outstanding junior for exemplary leadership, community service and performance in the field of social studies. If the recipient chooses to apply to the University of Rochester, they will be considered for a merit based scholarship.
UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA JEFFERSON BOOK AWARD – Leah Nemi
The Jefferson Book Award was established to recognize outstanding high school juniors who embrace creativity and innovation and embody the spirit of discovery, much like the University’s founder, Thomas Jefferson. The student is a demonstrated citizen leader who works to improve their community locally or globally.
THE WELLS COLLEGE 21ST CENTURY LEADERSHIP AWARD – Eli Goldberg
This award recognizes junior students who have excelled academically and have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities in their school or community. If the recipient decides to attend Wells College, they will receive a $10,000 scholarship per year for four years of study.
WILKES UNIVERSITY COLONEL EMERGING LEADER AWARD – Norah Kirch, Kennedy Ridzi, and Tara Thorne
This award honors top academic performers who have the passion and integrity needed to become successful leaders. Selected students are guaranteed a scholarship of $8,000 per year should the student be admitted and enroll at Wilkes University.
WILLIAMS COLLEGE JUNIOR BOOK AWARD – Katherine Saluti
This award is presented to a student who has demonstrated intellectual leadership and has made a significant contribution to the extra-curricular life here at Jamesville – DeWitt High School.
XEROX AWARD FOR INNOVATION AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY – Aaron Sikora
This award is established by the University of Rochester and is presented to a junior who represents a high level of achievement in innovation and information technology. The student demonstrates leadership among peers with their work in technology in the areas of business plans for fundraising, innovative community service and after-school activities. If the recipient chooses to apply to the University of Rochester, they will be considered for a merit based scholarship.
YALE UNIVERSITY BOOK AWARD – Grace Culligan
The annual Yale Book Award recognizes outstanding high school juniors for their character, leadership, scholarship, and intellectual promise.
