Dear J-D Community,
We are writing to let you know about a situation that took place this morning, Thursday, Feb. 27, at Jamesville-DeWitt High School.
Around 10:30 this morning, an individual called our high school main office to report that a student had a weapon in school.
District officials and the school resource officer immediately began an investigation and placed the building in a “hold in place.” During a hold in place, all individuals in the building remain in their current rooms.
Subsequent calls came to the main office at 10:43 a.m. and 10:47 a.m. that identified the student with the alleged weapon. The student was taken out of class, a BB gun was recovered and the student was brought to the main office. The student will be subject to the consequences outlined in the Code of Conduct.
The safety of our students and our staff remains our highest priority. We would like to commend those who reported the incident. Please talk with your student about the importance of telling a trusted adult if they see or hear something concerning.
We remain vigilant in keeping our school community safe at all times and continue to review our safety and security measures to ensure the safest school environment possible for our students, staff and guests.
Counselors and support staff are available should students need assistance.
Thank you for your continued support.
