On Aug. 4, 2021, Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Superintendent Peter Smith sent the following letter via SchoolMessenger to J-D families and staff.
Dear J-D families and staff:
As we near the halfway point of summer, many of you may be wondering what the new school year will look like, and I’m sure you have some questions and concerns.
At Jamesville-DeWitt, we are planning for a full return to school in September with classes beginning on Sept. 9. At this time, we are awaiting guidance from the New York State Department of Health regarding COVID-19 protocols that we must follow. Among the areas for which we need guidance are protocols for mask wearing and social distancing in classrooms, cafeterias and on school buses.
This information is critical to our planning for a learning environment that keeps our students and staff safe and healthy and in school. Once we receive this guidance we will be able to formulate a detailed, realistic plan that we will share with you via SchoolMessenger and on our website, www.jamesvilledewitt.org. We are hopeful that the guidance is released soon.
In the meantime, please remember the importance of vaccines and the protection the vaccine provides to protect yourself and your loved ones. There are many vaccine sites throughout the county.
In the coming days and weeks, you’ll receive information that’s specific to your student’s individual building as well as updates from me regarding the new school year. Thank you for your patience as we get closer to welcoming your children back to learning.
Sincerely,
Peter Smith
