The Jamesville-DeWitt Board of Education has appointed Greg Lawson as the next Jamesville-DeWitt High School principal.
Paul Gasparini is retiring at the end of the current school year as J-D High School’s principal, and Lawson will begin his new position on July 5. Lawson has over 15 years of experience in education, with a background in special education and the last five years of his career in administrative positions.
Most recently, he served as the West Genesee High School Principal for Student Affairs where his responsibilities included serving as lead for diversity, equity and inclusion. As vice principal for the Syracuse City School District’s Edward Smith Elementary School, he was the administrator in charge of the school intervention, school climate and attendance teams. At Syracuse’s Grant Middle School, he was the restorative justice lead.
In addition to his work in education, Lawson has been actively involved in military service and is a member of the United States Navy Reserve.
“You will find that Greg is student-centered with a focus on academic excellence and social-emotional development,” Superintendent Peter Smith said. “He is excited to become a member of the Jamesville-DeWitt school community and is looking forward to meeting and working with the students, staff and families at the high school.”
