Frederick Wheeler was appointed Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District’s next Director of Physical Education, Athletics, and Health during Monday night’s board of education meeting.
Wheeler of Jamesville will replace John Goodson who has accepted a position with the Saratoga Springs School District.
Wheeler brings more than 20 years of experience in teaching, athletic coordinating, mentoring, and coaching to the district. He has been with the Syracuse City School District since 1994. As an Independent Evaluator for Physical Education, Health, and FAC he has supervised budgets, scheduling, and developed athletic programs. He also has experience as a Dean of Students, physical education and health teacher, and coach.
Wheeler’s coaching background started in the mid-90s. Most recently, he has been an I90 Elite Nike National Coach and the coach for Nottingham Indoor and Outdoor Track. He was also Nottingham High School Varsity Head Football Coach from 2015-2020.
“Fred was a standout candidate. Not only does he have the experience needed for the role, but he strives to put students first – which is a driving force for the district. We’re excited to welcome Fred and look forward to this next chapter in the storied history of Jamesville-DeWitt athletics” said Superintendent Peter Smith.
Wheeler’s first day will be Monday, July 17.
