Jamesville-DeWitt High School is working with Fayetteville-Manlius and East Syracuse Minoa to host a community discussion around adolescent physical and mental health. A panel of experts will provide tips on what to look for and how to help.
The “Healthy Habits” event will be held on Wednesday, March 13 at East Syracuse Minoa High School (6400 Fremont Road, East Syracuse). Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the panel discussion beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The panel will include dietitian Deidre Smith-Howard (RDN, CDN), Child Clinical Psychology Specialist Anne Reagan (PsyD), and an officer from the Manlius Police Department. Smith-Howard will focus on the impact of diet on adolescent physical and mental development, Reagan will discuss anxiety and depression, along with coping methods, and the police department will present on the impact of sextortion.
The event is sponsored by HEAL Onondaga County, a nonprofit organization with a mission to educate and create awareness around substance abuse and mental health. Community providers will also be available to meet anyone attending the event.
