J-DHS students participate in PRHYLI conference in Albany

We’re proud to share that some Jamesville-DeWitt High School students recently participated in the Annual Angelo Del Toro Puerto Rican / Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute Albany Weekend Conference. J-DHS students Stephanie Alfonso, Stefanie Cervantes, Gabriela Garcia-Thomas, Rebeca Mendez Siquier, and Sara Skewes were chosen to represent the Syracuse Delegation for demonstrating exceptional leadership, public speaking, and collaborative skills.

The experience immersed the students into the New York State legislative process through workshops and mock assemblies, providing them with opportunities to network with more than 300 students from across the state.

Rebeca Mendez Siquier was selected as a PRHYLI Outstanding Delegate due to her leadership skills. She had the opportunity to meet Governor Kathy Hochul and other elected officials. As an Outstanding Delegate, she will participate in an educational trip to Washington, D.C., where she will meet with elected officials, visit historical landmarks of the nation’s capital, and learn more about government, leadership, and advocacy.

Rebeca was also awarded a $1,100 SOMOS, Inc. Scholarship for an essay that she wrote about Perseverance and the Power of Democracy.

Congratulations Rebeca and to all PRHYLI delegates who participated!
