The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District invited Blueprint for Excellence to conduct a community discussion session with approximately 40 key stakeholders about the next strategic plan. The group included students, staff, community members, administrators, and the Board of Education. The four hour session was held on Thursday, Oct. 24. The goal was to ensure all voices had the opportunity to be heard during the process.
The group was tasked with thinking more deeply about the district’s mission, vision, and core values. They also reviewed data collected during the district’s recent strategic plan ThoughtExchange. 309 people participated in the survey.
The ThoughtExchange helped identify three main priority areas:
-
- Academic excellence
- Student and family experience
- Operations with a focus on safety, security, and communication
The group was charged with identifying a goal for each of these priority areas and to collaboratively identify specific steps the district could take to achieve those goals.
“It was an incredibly productive evening. We had representation from families, staff, and, most importantly, students. I worked with a group on the Family and Student Experience priority area. We used the information in the community ThoughtExchange to develop action steps around family partnerships, extracurricular activities, and mental health support,” said Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Equity Nate Franz. “Throughout the process, we applied an equity lens to ensure that each action step would positively impact every J-D student.”
Blueprint for Excellence will meet with administrators to begin putting together detailed action plans. Additional opportunities will be made available for stakeholder input as the process continues.
Once complete, the strategic plan will be presented to the Board of Education for adoption. That is expected to happen in early 2025.
