After serving the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District for 28 years in a number of roles, Superintendent Dr. Peter Smith is set to retire at the end of the current school year. He shared his decision with the Board of Education on Monday, Oct. 28. The board will now begin the process of finding a new district leader.
“It has been my absolute pleasure to work alongside J-D’s amazing staff and serve our students and the community for nearly three decades. I believe Jamesville-DeWitt is among the very best schools in the region and I feel incredibly fortunate to have spent the bulk of my career here,” said Dr. Smith.
Before serving as Superintendent, Dr. Smith was an Assistant Superintendent and served in other administrative roles. He began his career with the district as a social studies teacher at J-D Middle School in 1997.
“We’ve been able to achieve so much together while remaining fiscally responsible to taxpayers,” said Dr. Smith. “I am grateful for the school community’s trust, allowing me to lead the district through the COVID-19 pandemic, the development of two strategic plans, capital projects, and so much more. It has been an incredible privilege to lead this district.”
The board will begin the search process with the expectation of having a new Superintendent in place by July 1. More information will be provided as the process continues.
