J-D students shine at DECA State Career Conference

We’re very proud to share the successes of 18 Jamesville-DeWitt High School students who recently competed in the DECA State Career Conference in Rochester from March 6-8.

13 J-D students finished top 10 in the state. Senior Grayson Pitts placed second and Seniors Phoenix McBride and Logan Oppedisano finished in first. This marks the first time J-D High School has won two state championships in DECA. This also marks the second year in a row that our DECA team has qualified for Nationals. Congratulations!

DECA is a high school and college program for students interested in business. The organization prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.

A DECA competition includes three levels: district, state, and international. Each competitor chooses to compete in one of four career clusters: Marketing, Business Management & Administration, Hospitality & Tourism, or Finance. Choosing topics within each career cluster, all participants compete in two role plays and a cluster test. Students also have the option to participate in projects that focus on professionalism within writing, as well as presentation and public speaking skills. Members may receive medals for each part of the event as well as place in their event to advance on to the next level of competition.
