Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School is committed to providing our students with a worldly experience that allows them to continue their education after the traditional school day ends. For most activities, there is a late bus that leaves the middle school between 3:40 p.m. and 4 p.m.
2023-24 Extracurricular Activities
Athletics (grades 7 and 8)
Students can participate and represent Jamesville-DeWitt in interscholastic athletics. Please visit the district’s Athletics webpage for information about teams and schedules.
Schedule: daily, practice and game schedules typically occur in the afternoon.
Dungeons and Dragons (grade 6)
Students go on epic journeys with characters they created in the fantasy world of Dungeons and Dragons.
Schedule: weekly on Tuesdays, 3:05 p.m. -3:40 p.m.

Fiddles on Fire (grade 5-8 Orchestra members)
Students at different levels play fiddle music. Students are chosen to play introductions and rehearse. They learn notes, rhythm, and style of the music.
Schedule: weekly on Thursdays, 7 – 7:45 a.m., Sept. through Feb.

Good Time Singers (grade 7 and 8 chorus members, auditions)
Good Time Singers is the auditioned vocal group at Jamesville-DeWitt
Middle School. They meet weekly for the entire year and sing at concerts as well as special events like Syracuse Crunch hockey games, Syracuse Mets games, and Town of DeWitt events.
Schedule: weekly on Thursdays, 7:00 – 8:15 a.m.

GSA Jr. (formally YANA) (grades 5-8)
Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School’s Gender & Sexuality Alliance provides a safe space for all LGBTQ+ students and their allies to come for community, conversation and a bit of activism to ensure that all students are treated with dignity & respect by the entire school community.

J-D Middle School Times Newspaper (grades 5-8)
The JDMS Times Newspaper Club meets every Wednesday in Room 101. Students may join at any time during the school year. The goal of the club is to let the students practice and hone their writing skills through writing newspaper articles for the monthly JDMS Times edition. The club gives the students a voice in our JDMS school community.

Jazz Ensemble

Math Team (grades 7 and 8)
As part of the Onondaga County Junior High Math League, our math team competes in 5 meets throughout the academic year. Students think critically to solve hard math problems, collaborate with peers, and have some fun along
the way.
Schedule: twice a month after school

Musical 5/6 (grades 5 and 6)
Each year, fifth and sixth grade chorus members can participate in a musical.
Schedule: several days after school until 4:30 from late November to early February

Musical 7/8 (grades 7 and 8)
Each year seventh and eighth grade chorus members can participate in a musical.
Schedule: several days after school until 4:30 from late December to early March

PTG Activities (grades 5-8)
Students may take part in various small group activities ranging from
theater writing to high intensity interval training There is a $30 participation fee.
Schedule: weekly, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 2:50 – 3:40 p.m.

Sustainability Club (grades 6-8)
We work on activities that improve the environment and get kids to love their
environment. For example, we do schoolyard clean-ups, building recycling and field trips to Butternut Creek and SUNY-ESF.
Schedule: weekly on Wednesdays, 3:05 – 3:40 p.m.

Tutoring (grades 5-8)
Students may stay after school with their teachers to receive one to one or small group academic help. Students must make arrangements with the teachers to receive help.

Yearbook (grade 8)
Participating in a middle school yearbook class not only enhances a students’ skills in photography, writing, and design but also fosters teamwork, time management, and organizational abilities. It allows students to leave a lasting mark on their school and creates a cherished keepsake for everyone in the community.
Schedule: every other day during the school day. Multiple and varied
after school times for photography, organization and marketing meetings.
