The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Board of Education approved the appointment of John Barlow as the new J-D Varsity Head Football Coach during Monday night’s meeting.
Barlow will replace Eric Ormond who recently decided to step down from the position. Barlow has been with the Jamesville-DeWitt school district since the fall of 2016. He’s a history teacher at J-D Middle School and has worked his way up through the football program. He has served as a JV assistant coach, JV head coach, and varsity assistant coach.
“I believe my experience in all levels of coaching, from modified to varsity, has prepared me for this very moment, to lead the Jamesville-DeWitt football program” said John Barlow.
And he has a clear vision for its future.
“There’s not much better for the community than a Friday night football game. A loud and proud student section, young kids playing a touch football game in the field behind the visitor stands, and a crowd decked out in red. That is the vision I have for this community, and that’s the vision I have for this football program. I plan to put everything I’ve got into this, and I hope the community can stand behind what we’re trying to build” said Barlow.
The board of education previously held off on Barlow’s appointment so Frederick Wheeler, J-D’s new Director of Physical Education, Athletics, and Health, could play a role in the hiring process.
“Coach Barlow has a clear vision and strategic plan to turn around the J-D program. He’s dedicated to the Jamesville-Dewitt community and is very eager to implement a new style of play with his spread offense” said Fred Wheeler.
The football season begins August 19. Go Red Rams!
