J-D Athletic Department monitors air quality updates

The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District’s Athletic Department is closely monitoring air quality updates and the impact it could have on our sports teams. This is a fluid situation, and information and data is being evaluated hourly.

The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) released the following statement on physical activity, air quality and wildfires: “Under the Clean Air Act, the National Ambient Air Quality Standard is 100. An AQI level greater than 100 indicates that a pollutant is in the unhealthful range.”

All decisions will be made using the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) information which is linked below. Track practices will be held on the indoor track today. 7th and 8th grade interscholastic athletic contests and practices are canceled for today. J-D Athletic Director John Goodson says teams will not play outdoors if air quality levels exceed 100.

At this point, NYSPHSAA has postponed the Boys Lacrosse Semifinals until Thursday, June 8. If this changes, we will provide an update as soon as we can.
