The leadership team at Jamesville-DeWitt High School has a new addition. Ms. María De Jesús was appointed Assistant Principal by the Board of Education Monday night. A hiring committee of stakeholders selected De Jesús after interviewing multiple candidates last month.
“I am incredibly grateful to have this opportunity to start my leadership career at J-D” said the new Assistant Principal.
De Jesús has served as Interim Assistant Principal since the start of the school year, but has been with the district much longer than that. De Jesús was a student teacher at Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School and taught Spanish at the high school for 17 years.
“The students, families, faculty, and staff have helped mold me into the educator I am today; starting this leadership journey with the same people is a wonderful feeling…I plan to continue building relationships with families and students as I did in the classroom. I am grateful that students can seek me out (and me them) in a different capacity” said De Jesús.
School leaders were quick to congratulate their colleague. “Ms. De Jesús brings a fresh student focused approach to every situation. Her experience teaching language and cultures brings a unique perspective that I appreciate, and have grown from. I’m thrilled to continue to work with her, and I’m excited to see the great things Assistant Principal De Jesús will do for our school community” said Jamesville-DeWitt High School Principal Gregory Lawson.
De Jesús’ appointment went into effect Tuesday, and she is looking forward to what’s ahead.
“I am excited to be a part of this district’s journey as we continue to grow in our work in improving Culture of Wellness, Curriculum and Programs, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Family and Community Engagement” said De Jesús.
