Christine Woodcock Dettor announced that she plans to step down from her position on the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Board of Education effective April 30, 2021.
Dettor was first elected to the board in 2017 to a three-year term. She was re-elected in 2020, and two years of her current three-year term are remaining. On May 18, residents will vote on a proposed 2021-22 school budget and elect candidates to the board of education. Dettor’s seat on the board will be added to the ballot, and residents will vote on a candidate to fulfill the rest of her term, which expires in 2023.
There will be three other three-year board positions on the ballot, which are currently held by Dana Corcoran, Wendy Rhodes and Juanita Rivera-Ortiz. Their terms each expire June 30.
Anyone interested in running for the board must submit a petition for nomination of a candidate by April 19. Petitions are available by calling Tish Hauser in the J-D Superintendent’s Office at 315-445-8304.
The number of signatures required to nominate a candidate is 25, and petitions must be filed at the J-D District Office by 5 p.m. April 19.
All board of education members in New York state must meet the following qualifications:

Be a qualified voter of the district:

Be a district resident for at least one year,

A U.S. citizen,

A minimum of 18 years of age and

Be able to read and write.
