A group of Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School students were among those honored during the Gala for the Arts at the Everson Museum in downtown Syracuse on June 21. It recognized the invaluable contributions of educators and students in Central New York’s fine arts community.
“The purpose of this event was to create a true celebration for the arts education in our community. We felt it was overdue that the arts in CNY were highlighted for the great work that has affected so many students, educators, families and communities over the years” said CiTi Arts-in-Education Fine Arts Specialist Christian J. Oliver.
J-D Middle School students Kate Schlegel, Giada Podbelski, and Hayley Synakowski were among those who received a Student Arts Innovation Recognition award. It was open to students in grades K-12 who have demonstrated some level of leadership, creativity, advocacy, dedication, or passion towards the Arts that has affected their school or community culture for the better.
“These students have shown not only a dedication and commitment to the importance that the arts make in their community, but how they can make a positive impact towards others. Congratulations Kate, Giada, and Hayley” said Middle School Special Education Teacher Kara Azria.
Several school districts and teachers were also recognized for their dedication to arts education. CiTi Arts-in-Education plans to hold the gala again next year.
