The Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Board of Education is committed to providing a safe and orderly learning environment where students and district personnel can participate in quality educational services without disruption or interference. Responsible behavior by students, teachers, other staff, parents and other visitors is essential to achieving this goal.
The district has a longstanding set of expectations for conduct on school property and at school functions. These expectations are based on the principles of civility, mutual respect, citizenship, character, inclusion, honesty and integrity.
The board recognizes the need to clearly define these expectations for acceptable conduct, identify the possible consequences of unacceptable behavior and ensure that discipline is administered fairly and in a timely manner. It does so through the Jamesville-DeWitt Central School District Code of Conduct, which is reviewed annually and updated if necessary.
Public Hearing
The district will hold a public hearing on the proposed 2022-23 J-D Code of Conduct before any changes are adopted for the next school year. The hearing will be held during the May 23 J-D Board of Education meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the district office and via Zoom. Once it is finalized, a link to join the Zoom meeting will be shared on the board of education meetings web page.
A draft of the 2022-23 Code of Conduct with the proposed changes can be found here. All edits are tracked in green text.
The meeting is open to the public, and anyone may raise questions or concerns about the code during the public hearing by completing a comment request form.
Comments about the proposed code may also be sent to Nate Franz, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Equity at nfranz@jd.cnyric.org through May 31. The board is slated to vote upon the proposed code at its June 13 meeting.
The 2021-22 Code of Conduct is available on the district website and applies to all students, school personnel, guardians and other visitors when on school property or attending a school-sponsored function.
