Nearly 400 students, including 11 from Jamesville-DeWitt, recently graduated from the Career & Technical Education (CTE) and New Vision and Career Development and Occupational Studies programs through OCM BOCES. The Thompson Road Campus ceremony was moved to the New York State Fairgrounds to accommodate the growing crowds. About 2,500 people attended the June 7 event.
Students heard from CTE alum Samantha Maxsween, Cosmetology Class of 2010, who was awarded a “CTE Alumni Hall of Fame” award. Samantha now owns “Snip Its Cuts for Kids” franchises in Cicero and Hudson, Ohio.
WCNY was also named “Business Partner of the Year” in Onondaga County for its dedication to students through the Media Marketing Communications program.
11 Jamesville-DeWitt students earned a CTE Endorsement for their high school diploma. It’s considered a distinction of honor because it demonstrates a student’s academic strength and signifies their readiness to enter the workforce or enroll in college.
The following J-D students were honored:
Tori Downer, Cosmetology
Jaclyn Dwyer, Welding
Tionne Gayle, Health Occupations
Alric Good, Welding
